Tartan Carriages is a family run business. We have recently returned from Germany having retired from the Army after 25years of service.
I trained as a Class 3 Army farrier and after fracturing my lower back, I found it difficult to Shoe. So no one more than I appreciate a good farrier when you find one, I was then invited to train as a blacksmith as I made this my main trade. During my career I had a spell as the the senior Army Blacksmith Instructor at the Army Aprentice College Chepstow. I always loved teaching and then moved into running army equestrian centres teaching dependents and Soldiers to ride.
My other half (some say the better half) trained as a dental assistant but joined me to work with horses. Boy do I appreciate her, as she works really hard.
The horses that we now have, both ride and drive, they are just awsome at it. My wife and children compete weekly at show jumping and cross country, there is a lot of competion between them. They regulary come home with a red rossette.
Driving is my passion and having taught my wife to drive she also understands the thrill of driving. As you can imagine a lot of work goes into maintaining the horses and carriages and thats where the children come in handy. They ride daily and share our passion for horses, just not the mucking out.

Driving to Church or your Venue in a Beautiful Horse Drawn Carriage is something that every couple dreams of. We can of course cater to your every need from flowers to feathers, ribbons to roses or chilled champagne.
To give you that extra option we have the luxury of three carriages, so we can give you a choice, whatever the weather.
*Remember only thoes registered to Shoe can dress or fit shoes to a horses foot, unless you'r horse desperatly requires emergency first Aid, get in the professionals *
